• As Tuggar, Okorocha, Awolowo make case for Nigeria

DAILY COURIER - MIKTA group, comprising Mexico, Indonesia, the Republic of Korea, Turkey and Australia Monday held a roundtable in Abuja, where it reiterated its commitment to promoting democracy, open economies, respect for international laws among others.
Founded in 2013, MIKTA Ambassadors in Nigeria at the meeting hosted political leaders, investors, business communities and other stakeholders, where economic development, security, sustainability, trade and investment among others topped the conversations at the 2024 edition.
Also present at the event was the Ambassador of Indonesia, Usra Harahap, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea, Kim Pankyu, Ambassador of Turkey, Hidayet Bayraktar and the High Commissioner of Australia,Leilani Bin-Juda, who all showcased the economic strength of their countries and how it is being sustained.
Speaking earlier, the minister of Foreign Affair, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar stated Nigeria’s readiness to leverage on MIKTA vision and partnerships, saying how the countries evolved and transit to where they are today is highly commendable.
Represented by Ambassador Janet Olisa, the minister stated further; “The ministry is keen to explore avenue of collaborations in order to create a future that tallies with the aspirations of all our people,”
Giving an opening address, the group Chairman, who doubles as the Ambassador of Mexico in Nigeria, Alfredo Miranda said the event was to share information and knowledge about their countries performance and best practice that has over the years helped in positioning the MIKTA countries.
According to Miranda, MIKTA countries are open to share with Nigeria how it attained its present position in areas of information, exchange and cooperation to further strengthen its ties and add value to Nigeria.
The envoy, at the event further described Mexico as a dynamic manufacturing power house, also a global leader in automotive, electronics and aerospace production willing to expand its industrial capabilities and economic influence.
“What we are doing today is to share information and knowledge about our countries performance and best practice that has over the years helped in positioning our countries.” Miranda added.
The duo of Owelle Rochas Okorocha, former governor of Imo state and the National Coordinator, Nigeria AfCFTA Coordination office, Mr Segun Awolowo urged MIKTA to set up an office in Nigeria, while also clamoring for partnership that would foster innovation and create job opportunities.
